Bubble tea!

It's my latest quest! (Can you hear Eric saying 'no, not another beverage obsession!') Ah, it is all true.
Those chewy morsels of tapioca had my heart at the GF dinner at Shauns. Since then, how do I get more? How do I make my own? Is that even possible for a Westerner? Natch, the internet makes everything possible. It only took me about four hours to figure out which flavors I was ordering - there are a ton to sift through, some yummy (mocha!), some odd (lychee jelly?).
The boxes came this week, and it's a dizzying kit... the cups... the lids... the special straws... the powders... the special measuring scoop.... and of course the star of the stage, the tapioca bobas a/k/a the bubbles. It's a 2 hour cooking process, plus the preparation of the syrup which these gelatinous guys sit in to cool down. And then, the killer is, they perish quickly: they are only viable for 6 hours after cooking.
But finally tonight, while we watched the SAGs in our pajamas, we made our first ones. Mango. Each ball that came up the straw was thick and chewy and done perfectly.
Such a fun drink!
